I usually watched what whatever my mother was watching. "Barnaby Jones" and "WKRP" were the norm as I got older.

My parents always watched Hawaii Five-O, and my father loved Star Trek. I preferred Lost in Space.

Are people from Arizona called Zoners? That almost sounds cool. We've been called Zonies for years, especially by Californians. BTW, some Native Americans in Utah and Colorado are called Utes. I believe Utah was named after them. Not the Tahs? "Hey, you Tahs!"

When I was a pup, I was only allowed one hour of television per day. I chose "Sesame Street!" Being the youngest in the family, I had to watch what everyone else wanted to watch. If I wanted to see a different show, I had to go up in the attic where there was a 13-inch black and white set so I could watch decent shows. And some indecent shows.

They didn't have indecent shows back then. They had bad shows. But nothing indecent. I remember a friend of mine, who had a television in his bedroom, decided to stay up a little late one time and watch "Playboy After Dark". Apparently, he thought there were going to be dozens of naked girls. He bitched for a week about how it was just some guy playing jazz music and people talking.

I think that's what made him think that this was some landmark show. It was around 1970 or so, but the show ran late at night. 11:30, I think. So he probably figured that, since it was that late, the clothes would come off.

Hey, if you're a 12-year old boy, do you want to see Johnny Carson interviewing Truman Capote or Miss February showing off her....uh....stuff?

We had the "big" set (19-inch) in the living room. Up on the third floor (attic area) there was a 13-inch Sylvania. It was a piece of crap. The combination of being in the attic and the fact that it was from around 1959 allowed it to get NBC and CBS. ABC would come in with lines across the screen. If you wanted to watch PBS, it was like viewing an old kinescope. The picture was fuzzy and it jumped. We also didn't own a color set until the summer of 1976.

After the high holidays, you should get that broken dental plate fixed. Why are they called "high" holidays? On second thought, I don't want to know.

A few more of my early TV memories:
Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour - a predecessor to Star Search, The Gong Show, American Idol, etc.
The 20th Century - a documentary show about historical events, hosted by Walter Cronkite
Learn to Draw - hosted by artist Jon Gnagy, a predecessor to Bob Ross, who demonstrated drawing techniques
Super Circus - a show of circus acts, hosted by Claude Kirchner
Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom - with the original host Marlin Perkins

Not sure how exactly far back I can remember. I remember liking the Care bears when I was really young, then later Inspector Gadget and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I also remember watching a lot of The Cosby Show in the late 80's, and of course who can forget Sledge Hammer?.
