Edited to add: Those shoes he's wearing seem pretty gay.

But My earliest Japanese (translated to English) TV memory is

I liked that show. Too bad Hexum shot himself in the head with a blank. The idiot didn't realize it would kill at point-blank range.

You know, at the time, I though that show ran more than half a decade, I realized today it had only 20 episodes.
What the hell I was thinking, I never caught on that I watch so many reruns in the early 80's

For me, the late '50s into the early '60s: - Daytime kiddie shows (Romper Room, Sandy Becker, Captain Jack McCarthy (featuring The Little Rascals), Officer Joe Bolton (featuring The Three Stooges), Chuck McCann, Wonderama, Felix the Cat, Diver Dan)
- Game shows, both daytime (Queen For a Day, The Price is Right (hosted by Bill Cullen)) and primetime (To Tell the Truth, I've Got a Secret)
- Reruns of The Honeymooners (What's a rerun? It used to give me chills when the moon came up in the intro and morphed into Gleason's face.)

Freaky, huh?

Freaky, huh?Originally, it morphed into Jackie Gleason shooting the moon, but the censors had a fit.

I was born in 1959 so I only recall 50s shows as reruns like Father Knows Best. The kiddie shows above were certainly part of my childhood in NYC. Also Bozo the Clown. Diver Dan is probably my earliest TV memory along with Jack LaLanne. IIRC Capt Jack also showed Popeye along with the Little Rascals. I remember Bill Cullen hosting Eye Guess. Remember the kids of WOR (Channel 9) staff who would come on at Christmas and say "My dad works at channel 9..." and say Merry Christmas. And of course...

Earliest memory of cable TV
Late 1960s New York. It was called Teleprompter. My parents didn't get cable when was I was a kid. I had a couple of friends who did. You didn't get cable for cable channels which practically didn't exist! You got cable for good reception. Also to get Knicks and Rangers home games. Hard to believe today but getting those home games was really, really cool. I don't recall any cable channels at all other than those Madison Square Garden home games, even in the 1970s.

And we're even talking about some of the early vintage ones from Fleischer Studios. Into the mid '60s, there was a morning children's show called Birthday House hosted by Paul Tripp, which is said to have run from 1963 to 1967. I was aware of Captain Kangaroo, but I don't recall having watched it very much. I also remember watching daytime reruns of '50s shows Topper and My Little Margie, although none of the episodes sticks with me. Also a show with circus acts hosted by Don Ameche. Wikipedia says it was called International Showtime, and it ran from 1961 and 1965. I can't say that I enjoyed watching that one, but being just a tot I wasn't in charge of the TV selections at the time. I also remember TV coverage of the JFK funeral. Other aspects about it at the time, not so much.

Are the hot dogs of today any better than the ones 100 years ago? I ate some hot dogs fifty years ago in NYC that I thought were pretty bad.

Test patterns! In the early fifties when we got our first TV, the whole family would gather around and gaze at them for hours.
Actually, my earliest memory is of the 1952 national political conventions. Not that I was into them, but they preΓ«mpted all of my favorite shows.

You must have seen The Adventures of Superman (George Reeves) when it originally aired! I remember well watching reruns in the mid to late 60s. What other shows were popular in the early 1950s?

I just had a silent era hot dog. Now excuse me. I have to go to the bathroom. Tell the post office to hold my mail. This will take awhile.

Years ago, a cousin of mine told me how he never missed an episode of Mister Peepers. I guess it was like the Milton Berle Show in his neighborhood. Everyone would gather at his family's house to watch.
