Anyone remember the brief series "Blondie" from 1968? You know, three of the main characters, Will Hutchins (Dagwood), Patricia Harty (Blondie) and Pamelyn Ferdin (Cookie) are still alive. Anyone want to lobby for a reboot? I mean, Hutchins is a spry 93 and Ferdin is only 64. There could still be laughs aplenty.

No one will know the difference. Oh, this is all locking in!

I don't believe they'll reboot a series that bombed after a year. They cut back on the Sunday comics where I live and Blondie didn't even make the cut. I vaguely remember the series, but I didn't watch it.

CBS Toadie: Ooh, good idea boss!

Although a reboot usually has new actors, the original ones are often given sly cameos. I see that Alexander was played by Peter Robbins, who committed suicide last year. But back to the character of Cookie. In the comic strip isn't she supposed to be well into her teens? Pamelyn Ferdin (born February 4, 1959) was only 9 when the series aired.

I thought maybe they could work Robbins' suicide into a storyline. And the reboot can have 64-year old Ferdin out on the dating scene. Making up for what she missed in '68. Pam Ferdin: It's simple. But it says it.

Oh, no. Not that. Please. Dagwood would have to be Islamic. Blondie would be bisexual (well, maybe that could be interesting) and the kids would be black or gay or both or maybe even Asian. Newman: What about Mr. Dithers? He's now Mrs. Dithers. Mr. Dithers: It's MA'AM!!

But then they stopped aging. In Gasoline Alley all the characters continued to age, although perhaps slower than in real time.

"Blondie" failed in spite of running opposite "Daniel Boone" on NBC and "The Ugliest Girl in Town" on ABC. You could have run a test pattern instead of "Blondie" and won the time slot. If I recall correctly, I think I saw the show once (or part of one episode). I think there may be an episode available on YouTube. But I still won't watch it.

Russell Dalrymple: Well, why am I watching it? George: Because that's what stations run overnight when there's no programming. Russell Dalrymple: Not anymore.

Maybe that's where "Ugliest Girl" failed. Not Seinfeld enough. Maybe Ugly should have done the joke about her butler using all the Pledge and she has no wood in the house?

Trivia: What was Blondie's maiden name?
Hint: Any Helen Kane fans here? My hint didn't help. Did it? From Wkikipedia: Helen Kane battled breast cancer for more than a decade. She had surgery in 1956 and eventually received two hundred radiation treatments as an outpatient at Memorial Hospital. She died on September 26, 1966, at age 62, in her apartment in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City.[24] Her husband of 27 years, Dan Healy, was at her bedside. Helen Kane was buried in Long Island National Cemetery, in Suffolk County, New York.200 radiation treatments? I'll bet that's what killed her.

That the hard-core version of "Blondie"? rudiger: The feature film version. In the film, Dagwood has a nude scene. And Blondie and the mailman do it on Blondie's kitchen table. Cookie walks in on them. Hilarity ensues.

Hint: Any Helen Kane fans here? Okay, I'll have to end this for π¬ππ : Miss Blondie BoopadoopMany thought Helen Kane was the voice of Betty Boop. She sued, but the Boop bosses were able to prove that the style was a genre that Kane didn't originate. She just made it popular.
