If I had been doing those high kicks my shoe would have come off, and the crowd would have howled with laughter. Afterwards, Sullivan would have told me I'd never work in show biz again. But I'd always have that moment.

But I'd always have that moment. Sullivan: You almost hit Ray Bloch with your stupid, smelly Keds sneaker. You'll never do "The Ed Sullivan Show" show again! pizzabagel: Hey, man. I already did "The Ed Sullivan Show". Sullivan: Why do people keep telling me that?

Hey, I found a GIF of myself in 2nd grade, before I learned how to tie my shoes. rhs: You still don't know how to tie them, do you? Yes, I do. [Kicks foot, and shoe goes flying off.]

Ed Sullivan died in 1974 at age 73. I believe he might have died of compounded grief. His show was canceled in 1971 and his wife of 40+ years died in 1973.

Ed Sullivan died in 1974 at age 73. I believe he might have died of compounded grief. His show was canceled in 1971 and his wife of 40+ years died in 1973. Ever read the book "Impresario"? It's a story about the history of the show and Sullivan's life after the cancellation. He was crushed when it got canned. He wanted to make it to 25 years (he got 23). But the truth is, he had major problems with his memory by then and he had been suffering from ulcers for decades, which eventually led to his death from esophageal cancer.
