My 15-minutes of fame:
1. 6th grade talent show (1989) - We never made it past the tryouts. My friend and I lip-synced to A-ha's "Take On Me", dancing around on stage, doing our best to look 'New Wave'. We were terrible.
2. DJ - Embassy club (2002) - I was supposed to play a midnight slot, but at the last minute was given a 10:30 start time, which means a near-empty nightclub. I counted 6 or 8 people in there. I was pretty pissed off, but I did my job, which was getting the crowd going for the next DJ.
3. DJ - Labor Day weekend party (2007) - overall it was fun, but this one belligerent asshole ruined my night because he kept shouting song requests at me. For a DJ this is a major pet peeve.
4. DJ - Union bar (2013)- This was the most fun I ever had as a DJ. It was crowded, I got free drinks, and was a regular at the bar for many years before my gig. It was like spinning for a roomful of friends. Also, I finally found my niche, sorta speak. People young and old really livened up when I played, especially during this song:
There were a couple of other times, but those are my Top 4. Has anyone else performed in front of a live audience? Btw, this is not a music-only question. It's more about stage fright and going for it, and less about playing / performing music for people.

Several years ago my cousin-in-law and I went to a bar on a punk karaoke night. I had to get pretty drunk before I had the nerve to get on stage. I sang these two songs.
The first line from that second song, "I like to party fucking hard," got me a huge cheer.

Karaoke to me is renting a private room and singing, with a small group of friends. Did you get up and sing those songs at a bar's karaoke night?

Yeah, it was a large group of people I didn't know.

That takes some balls. I'm not a singer. Even knowing that it's part of the fun to sing horribly, it's hard for me to do that. It's just so....face to face.

Here I am in a coffeehouse in 2006. I've been playing them since the '60s. Most of those venues are long gone. This one, Rebecca's in South Park, San Diego survived for about 25 years and closed early this year.

That looks like a Suunto watch.

I remember your similar thread here thesein.freeforums.net/thread/535/tried-actingBut this is about music...Age 10, before about 15 residents in my building, me on drums, my best pal on piano, and two other long forgotten kids. I only remember playing "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," it was probably 1969. Needless to say my music career ended right there, though my old piano playing friend is a piano player to this day.

What a pair of lungs!

You 'Hurt' the way you want to 'Hurt', I'll 'Hurt' the way I want to 'Hurt'.

Ah yes, my old thread about acting. It seems I like to start threads to get to know my fellow Seinfeldians better. That song by The 5th Dimension will always remind me of the last scene in The 40-Year Old Virgin. Good stuff. You know, when black musicians smoked weak pot in the 60's (and before) they made incredible music, but now with weed averaging 30% THC, they're making utter trash like mumble rap and paint-by-number R&B. I find that very bizarre. Where are the Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament, Aretha Franklin, and yes, 5th Dimension of today??

I once sang, a cappella, "I Wanna Be Like You," from "The Jungle Book" in front of an impromptu talent show at my parents' club picnic.

I once sang, a cappella, "I Wanna Be Like You," from "The Jungle Book" in front of an impromptu talent show at my parents' club picnic. The first time I heard that song, I was enthralled. Seriously, when I was a kid I mustβve watched The Jungle Book and Robin Hood at least 50 times each. People there mustβve been pretty excited. Most kids would sing some generic pop song from the era.

Well, I was only ten years old then, and I was nervous but my best friend at the time talked me into it. I had an album including the top Disney songs up until then. No "Frozen" for me. I also had a separate "Jungle Book" album with some of the movie dialogue included. Later I was a big fan of Louis Prima and Keely Smith and I bought "Zooma Zooma" on one of my first CDs that I ever owned.
