So what's everyone's thoughts on comic book movies?? Love em? Hate em? Obsessed? Can't stand em? Thoughts on the MCU, DCEU, or Fox Marvel, etc? Marvel or DC? Or, like me, watch both? Which are your faves? C'mon, get started.

So what's everyone's thoughts on comic book movies?? Love em? Hate em? Obsessed? Can't stand em? Thoughts on the MCU, DCEU, or Fox Marvel, etc? Marvel or DC? Or, like me, watch both? Which are your faves? C'mon, get started. I liked: Ghost World Kick Ass From Hell V for Vendetta Sin City Tim Burton's first Batman film Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy On TV, I also liked the animated series (I like animation): 1966 Marvel Super Heroes (I actually liked that they were just photocopies of the comics that didn't move) 1967 Fantastic Four 1967 Spider-Man 1967 Aquaman 1968 Adventures of Batman 1978 Challenge of the Super Friends 1981 Spider-Man and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends 1982 Incredible Hulk 1995 The Maxx (MTV Liquid Television) Watching animation as a kid, you tend to be less cynical and more forgiving. And upon re-watching, there's a nostalgia factor associated, which allows you to enjoy those episodes without pretense. I have seen most of the newer comic books films over the last 20 years, but I haven't really enjoyed them. And I don't bother watching any of the live-action comic book tv series because I know that I won't enjoy them. Even though I am not a Superman fan, I did like the documentary The Death of "Superman Lives".

Bit of fun but surely it has to run out of steam.

I only have a mild interest in comic book movies, especially the ones about superheroes. Like WMG up there, my favorite is Ghost World, which isn't the same thing since it's based on a graphic novel.

I'm encouraged by the people who like Ghost World. It's probably in my top 25. Maybe higher.

I also really liked the documentary Crumb. While it's not a "comic book movie" per se, it is about the life of a talented comic creator, Robert Crumb, and his fractured relationships with family, primarily his two mentally ill brothers.
In a similar vein, I also liked American Splendor, although not as much as Ghost World or Crumb.

I consider myself a fan, but I'm not a Pro Marvel or Pro DC type, I just enjoy them all. I do think that fatigue might be setting in, especially for the MCU. They're gonna be releasing two more origin movies, 3 if you count Spider-Man Homecoming (which I hope starts somewhere in the middle, cause how many times are we gonna see Peter get bit and Ben get shot??) I'm really looking forward to Infinity War, but hopefully the MCU will slow down a bit, like one movie a year instead of 3.
Batman will always be my favorite comic book character, with the X-Men coming in second, and Spawn 3rd.
Just saw Logan last weekend and it was superb, and a great send off for both that era of Xmen films and Hugh Jackman.

I loved super-hero movies a lot more when there were fewer of them each year. Society now is all hurry up, now, now, now, quick editing. There is nothing called waiting anymore. "Superman: The Movie" from 1978 is a perfect example of what I am trying to say. You all probably saw it, so I will spare the details. Name any movie made now that would stop everything and have the lead actress recite a poem right in the middle of the story? And action movies are so loud these days, and another thing, you kids get off my lawn! Even when I watch movies at home on my giganta-TV, the music and sound effects are THIS LOUD and the dialogue is inaudible. I am not kidding, everything I watch at home I have to have the volume control in my hand constantly because the wavering is non-stop. (This goes for non-action movies too, so most all films are guilty.)
And since ten years ago, we suddenly need 27 action heroes in one story? What the hell? I think the last two superhero movies I liked were "Spider-Man" with Tobey Maguire and "Batman Begins" with Christian Bale. The rest of them all blur in my memory. Even way back to "Superman II" in 1980, the second half was way overdone. I was 15 then and at the movies, just before the big final battle, one of the characters in the street says, "This is gonna be great!" A bystander idiot in the cast was instructed to say this. Like freakin' Flounder in the streets of Faber. I know the special effects were lamer then but back then we didn't know it. Even at that age, that dialogue took me right out of the movie, winking at the audience that, no, this is all not real. This old man does prattle on today, so I will close by saying, "At best there are only about 15 worthwhile movies made each year, and 'Thor/Captain America/Avengers' is never one of them."
